The Kingsmead Kitchen
1 Kingsmead St, Bath BA1 2AA, United Kingdom
Nestled in the heart of Bath, The Kingsmead Kitchen at 1 Kingsmead St, Bath BA1 2AA is a charming café-restaurant that blends rustic character with a welcoming atmosphere. Its central location makes it a convenient stop for both locals and visitors, and the inviting décor—with its vintage furnishings, warm lighting, and relaxed feel—immediately sets it apart from chain cafés nearby.
The menu at The Kingsmead Kitchen offers a strong balance of breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes, all prepared with evident care. On my visit, the full English breakfast was a standout: hearty yet well-balanced, with perfectly cooked eggs, quality sausages, and crispy bacon. The vegetarian breakfast was equally impressive, showing that the café takes dietary inclusivity seriously rather than treating it as an afterthought. Later in the day, the homemade soups and freshly prepared sandwiches were highlights, offering a lighter option that still delivered plenty of flavor.
One of the café’s most appealing features is its focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The bread is particularly good—thick, wholesome, and clearly crafted with quality in mind. Cakes and pastries also shine here; the lemon drizzle cake I sampled was moist, tangy, and the ideal companion to a cup of coffee. Compared to other cafés in Bath, The Kingsmead Kitchen distinguishes itself through both authenticity and consistency in its food.
The drinks menu complements the food perfectly. Coffee is strong and smooth, clearly made with skill, while loose-leaf teas and fresh juices offer plenty of variety. For those seeking something indulgent, the hot chocolate is rich and satisfying, a treat that pairs well with one of their homemade desserts.
Service at The Kingsmead Kitchen is warm and attentive. Staff are friendly without being intrusive and are knowledgeable about the menu, offering recommendations when asked. On my visit, they were particularly accommodating with dietary requirements, ensuring that adjustments could be made with ease.
In terms of atmosphere, the café is cozy yet lively, making it suitable for both solo visits and social meetups. Its location also makes it a great spot to pause during a day of exploring Bath. Pricing is reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, striking a good balance between affordability and value.
Overall, The Kingsmead Kitchen is one of Bath’s standout cafés, offering hearty breakfasts, fresh lunches, and indulgent cakes in a warm and welcoming setting. Whether you’re a local in need of a regular spot or a visitor exploring the city, it’s a place that promises comfort, flavor, and genuine hospitality.

“The service was phenomenal! The staff were lovely and the food came out so quick! Food was good and good portion sizes too Really really lovely little breakfast/brunch place. In the cosy corner with a great view of kingsmead square out the windows. I will definitely be coming here again”
“Enjoyable breakfast early on a Saturday morning so getting a table wasn't an issue. Order for drinks and food were taken promptly, not in a speedy way, but they clearly knew we were there, and made sure they attended to us efficiently. Great flat whites here, really tasty fry up and a nice decor as well. Lovely white bloomer for the toast as well, it stood out despite everything else being nice! Friendly staff, it's in a decent location for getting about afterwards...... Well worth a visit.”
“After wandering around Bath looking for somewhere that did all-day breakfast, we discovered The Kingsmead Kitchen! It was everything we wanted & more! The breakfasts were delicious, as were the tea, hot chocolate orange & apple juice! The staff were charming & so helpful. The background music was an added bonus - not intrusive at all, but a wonderful mix of songs that made this vintage gal very happy! Next time I visit Bath, I will come back.”
“We popped in for a quick bite. Nothing special. Fresh food. Service, many young people. My eggs were actually quite tasty. Partner wasn’t complaining about his food either. Good experience overall.”
“Had a great breakfast here. Eggs - well cooked and seasoned Beans - Nice Mushrooms- Very good, but could have had more Hash Brown - Had a nibble of it, I don’t particularly like them but that’s a personal thing. Bacon - Very tasty Sausages - I prefer them a bit longer, but they were very good. The only minor annoyance was the toast, which was really just warm bread. It tasted like the toast you get at hospitals. Hot chocolate delightful.”
